Hello, friend
Inspo from recent travels to BC and the backcountry and home. Many shades of blue.
This is certainly a first - my very own blog! Recently I’ve been searching for a way to share more deeply while also reevaluating my relationship with social media. This seems like a two birds one stone situation so I’m gonna give it a shot. This is less of a “dear diary” and more of a “behind the scenes, what’s inspiring me lately, more pretty pictures” kind of deal.
So hello! My name is Kylee. I am a watercolor artist based in Seattle, Washington and have lived here my entire life. I started painting about 4 years ago when I was going through a rough patch and found it to be incredibly therapeutic. I’ve taken a few art classes in the past during high school and college but am by no means formally trained (shoutout to my other insecure self-taught friends!!). I work a full-time job as a UX Designer and have a host of hobbies I try to squeeze into my free time. I love being active outdoors, gardening, cooking, wildcrafting plants, amateur witching, reading, and spending time with my friends, fam, and doglin.
The last year plus has been, um…rough, and to be honest I lost a bit of my creative drive along the way. I hope this venue provides a way to for me to collect images and words that I can come back to when I’m feeling lost.
Things I’m reading
Afterparties - I love a good collection of short stories and these are, so far, quite wonderful.
Art, Inc. - Hi Lisa! I made a blog!
Parable of the Sower - This is the first book by Octavia Butler that I’ve read and wowwwwwowow. Horrifying how accurate it is to our current time and also beautiful in the hope it invokes. I can’t wait to read more of her work.
What I’m listening to
Ghost of a Podcast - my weekly dose of woo. She is a blessing and inspires me to be more active in my community/the world.
Maintenance Phase - did you also grow up with warped beliefs of body image and being “healthy”? Same! I love these hosts, I love the topics, and I love how much love and care (and buttloads of research) goes into each episode.
Watching *PSA do not come here for insight…trash TV almost exclusively*
Married at First Sight - what the actual?? It’s hard to believe we have come here as a society but damn is it entertaining.
